The ScanExpress 2.0: the new version of the first mobile industrial CT

Quality control that rolls to production: flexible, efficient and forward-looking — a new era of industrial tomography.

Mobile industrial CT

SCANEXPRESS Compact

(Blankenburg (Harz), 12.12.2024) Quality control in production is a decisive factor in ensuring that products meet the high standards expected today by customers and markets. With the ScanExpress, the world’s first mobile industrial CT scanner, Microvista last year presented a revolutionary solution that offers companies a flexible and efficient way of quality inspection. This innovation has proven particularly useful in phases of high inspection demand, such as during production ramp-ups. But Microvista is not resting on its laurels.

With Fraunhofer EZRT towards innovation in non-destructive testing

The success of the SCANEXPRESS is the result of intensive collaboration with the renowned Fraunhofer Development Center for X-Ray Technology (EZRT). This cooperation has made it possible to combine cutting-edge technology and scientific knowledge and to put them into practice. The great interest meant that the SCANEXPRESS was fully booked months in advance. To meet demand, Microvista and Fraunhofer EZRT jointly developed a new version: the SCANEXPRESS 2.0 (also called SCANEXPRESS Compact), tailored to different application fields and special requirements.

The new SCANEXPRESS Compact does without an operator room, making it noticeably more compact and requiring less space at the point of use. Thanks to its optimised design, a component ramp is no longer required, since loading is possible outside the container without a threshold. This concept enables even more flexible and efficient industrial CT quality control across the most varied production environments.

Advantages of the mobile industrial CT: efficiency without limits

The SCANEXPRESS is more than just another industrial CT scanner. It is a tailor-made solution for companies facing the challenges of a modern production environment:

  • No logistical effort: the ScanExpress can be deployed directly on the line, eliminating shipping times and costs. Blocked batches can be released immediately on site, minimising delays.
  • Fully automatic analysis: immediately after the inspection, customers receive the result thanks to fully automatic evaluation. From sample monitoring to 100 % inspection — anything is possible. Especially during ramp-ups, intensive inspection minimises risks and accelerates process optimisation through extensive feedback.
  • Flexibility and mobility: the mobile industrial CT can be rented for the period required with attractive extension options. This brings maximum flexibility without high investment costs.
  • Resource-saving and sustainable: non-destructive testing reduces the need to destroy components and enables customers to optimise processes and parts to the maximum. This saves resources and reduces CO₂ emissions along the value chain.

Innovation from development to sale

Even before the SCANEXPRESS 2.0 was built, its first deployment had already been ordered. The close cooperation with Fraunhofer EZRT and customer trust in Microvista’s proven quality and efficiency made this exceptional step possible. The SCANEXPRESS 2.0 is not just a technical evolution, but a targeted answer to the urgent demands of the industry for efficient, flexible and reliable quality solutions.

Industries such as automotive benefit in particular

Industrial CT is particularly advantageous for industries that produce many diverse and complex components with high safety requirements. For parts like stators, batteries, manifolds or cylinder heads, a high-precision 3D view of the interior is sometimes essential to guarantee the required quality.

Conclusion: actively shaping the future of quality assurance through innovation

Microvista’s progress in NDT with industrial CT shows that innovation is the key to success. The SCANEXPRESS is just one example of how advanced technologies and customer-oriented solutions can revolutionise production processes. Microvista is thus actively shaping the future of industrial quality assurance.
